I am also running Nikon Scan Version 4.0.2 (on Windows 10 in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3) and sometimes use that for the Coolscan for the full facilities it offers. If it's any help I have the Coolscan LS40 and generally use Vuescan for that and my Epson 4990 Scanner. I had the same problem and this solved it. Get the latest version of vue scan and install it. I contacted the seller but I also hoped someone here might have experience with this scanner. I’ve tried different orders of restarting the Nikon and PC, different films, both adapters, but nothing seems to quite want to work. My only other film scan experience was with Nikonscan on an older Mac and different scanner. Vuescan recognizes the scanner just fine, and it makes noises and flashes in the correct order but I cannot scan or preview since it thinks there is no film inside. I just got a Nikon Coolscan V (aka LS 50) off eBay with demonstration that it worked alongside vuescan, but I cannot seem to get vuescan or the scanner to recognize film adapters and/or film with either the slide or the negative strip adapters.
